Seven Women Appointed to New Administrative Positions in Higher Education

Karen Levitov was named director of the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery, formerly the University Art Gallery, at Stony Brook University in New York. She was the curator and senior administrator at the Jewish Museum of New York.

Dr. Levitov holds a master’s degree in art history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Ph.D. in art history and criticism from Stony Brook University.

Rachel Fester was appointed associate vice president of institutional effectiveness at Berkeley College in New Jersey. She was the executive director of assessment and planning for the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York and an associate research scholar at Columbia Law School.

Dr. Fester is a graduate of Harvard University. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and Baruch College of the City University of New York and earned a doctorate in higher education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Rebecca L. Kohler is the new director of admissions at Herkimer County Community College in New York. She was the associate director of marketing and public relations for the Upper New York United Methodist Church.

Kohler is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti where she majored in public law and government. She holds a master’s degree in political science from Syracuse University.

Maureen McCarthy was appointed interim director of the Academy for the Environment at the University of Nevada at Reno. She will continue to serves as part-time executive director of the Tahoe Science Consortium. She is also the president of McCarthy & Smith Consulting.

Dr. McCarthy is a graduate of Boston College, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the University of Colorado.

Kelley Hartley Hutton was named director of athletics at the Fort Wayne campus of Indiana University-Purdue University. She is the first woman to hold the position. For the past 15 years, Hartley Hutton has served as the head women’s volleyball coach at the university.

Hartley Hutton is a graduate of the University of Toledo. She earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Bowling Green State University.

Deanna McCormick has been chosen to be the next vice president for finance and business at the College of Wooster in Ohio. She has been serving as vice president for finance and administration at Notre Dame of Maryland University. She will begin her new job on April 1.

McCormick holds a bachelor’s degree in management and administration and an MBA from Indiana University.

Lee Benton was named registrar at the University of South Dakota School of Law in Vermillion. She has been serving as a staff member in the dean’s office at the law school.

Benton earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from the University of South Dakota.
