Five Women Selected for New Faculty Appointments at Colleges and Universities

Rebecca Robichaux-Davis has been appointed assistant dean of the College of Education at Mississippi State University. With a robust background in elementary and middle school mathematics education, she has taught in the university’s department of teacher education and leadership since 2007. Her background in higher education includes past positions with Auburn University in Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana University.

Dr. Robichaux-Davis received her bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from and her master’s degree in mathematics education from Louisiana State University. She holds a second master’s degree in applied mathematics and a doctorate in mathematics education from Auburn University.

Meagan Patterson has been promoted to associate vice provost for faculty policy and recognition at the University of Kansas. A faculty member in the department of educational psychology for nearly two-decades, she conducts extensive research on intergroup attitudes, the development of personal and group identity, and the implications of identity for academic and civic engagement.

Dr. Patterson earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and linguistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.

Mina Kinukawa has been awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of theatre and dance at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. An expert in scenic design, she teaches courses on the fundamentals of scenography, scene painting, and set design. Earlier, she worked in film and television production in Los Angeles.

Professor Kinukawa holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Michigan and a master of fine arts degree in scenic design from the University of California, San Diego.

Elaine Sia has been named the inaugural senior vice provost for academic excellence at the University of Rochester in New York. A full professor of biology, she currently serves as the associate dean of academic affairs for the university’s School of Arts and Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Her research focuses on the replication, repair, and maintenance of mitochondrial DNA.

Dr. Sia holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in microbiology from Columbia University.

Angela Hancock has joined the faculty at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, as an assistant professor of botany in the College of Agriculture. She previously conducted research in the department of structural and computational biology at the Max F. Perutz Labs in Austria. Her work centers around quantitative genetics and evolutionary biology.

Dr. Hancock received her Ph.D. in human genetics from the University of Chicago.

Two Women Selected for Key Interim Leadership Roles with the Universities of Wisconsin

Renée Wachter, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, has been selected to serve as interim president of the Universities of Wisconsin. Maria Cuzzo, provost of UW-Superior, will serve as the university's interim chancellor while Dr. Wachter assumes her new responsibilities.
