In Memoriam: Kristi Larkin Havens, 1964-2019

Kristi Larkin Havens, a lecturer in the department of English at the University of Tennessee, passed away on April 29, 2019. She was 55 years old.

Dr. Havens joined the University of Tennessee’s department of English in 1996 as a lecturer. She taught courses on composition, public writing, women in American literature, and African-American literature. She also designed and taught courses on the vampire myth and suburbia in American literature and film. In 2007, she was named assistant director of undergraduate studies. In this role, she advised undergraduate English majors and edited the department’s English Major Newsletter. She was also the coordinator of the department’s webpage.

“Kristi’s service to the department has been long and varied. She is woven into the fabric of our culture and will be deeply missed,” said Allen Dunn, head of the department of English.

Dr. Havens was a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville. She held a master’s degree and Ph.D. both from the University of Tennessee’s department of English.
