Title IX Complaints Filed Against Nine Campuses of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education

PASSHE_logoThe Women’s Law Project in Philadelphia has filed complaints with the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education against nine of the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). The complaints allege violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 resulting in “an ongoing failure of these universities to provide equal athletic opportunity to their students and, in some cases, equal financial assistance and recruitment.”

The nine universities that are included in the complaint are Bloomsburg University, Cheyney University, Clarion University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mansfield University, Millersville University, and Shippensburg University. Five other schools in the PASSHE systems were not included in the complaint. They are California University of Pennsylvania, East Stroudsburg University, Edinboro University, Slippery Rock University, and West Chester University.
