Since 2017, Carter has been president of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. She spent 25 years in leadership positions at The Juilliard School and later was executive vice president and university counsel at Eastern Kentucky University. She will begin her new duties on July 1.
In October 2019, Dr. Lumpkin was named chief operating officer at Saint Augustine's University. Previously, she served as the special assistant to the president, and as the inaugural executive director of student retention and the center for scholar communities at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
Barbara G. Lyman has served as the chief academic officer at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania since 2008. She will serve as interim president while a national search is conducted for a permanent president. The search will begin later this year.
The complaints allege violations of Title IX resulting in "an ongoing failure of these universities to provide equal athletic opportunity to their students and, in some cases, equal financial assistance and recruitment."
The Science Technology, Engineering Math University Partnership for the Advancement of Academic Women in Pennsylvania (STEM-UP PA) will form a mentoring network, develop leadership training programs, and recruit more women into STEM fields.
