A Quartet of New Women Deans

Pat Simpson has been named dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Dr. Simpson has served as interim dean for the past year. She joined the administration at Black Hills State in 2005. Previously, she was a professor, department chair, and director of education assessment at Abilene Christian University in Texas.

Dr. Simpson is a graduate of the University of Nebraska. She earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Tamara L. Brown is the new dean of the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. For the past 13 years, she served on the faculty at the University of Kentucky. Her research is focused on the underutilization of mental health services by members of minority groups.

Dr. Brown is a graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois.

Marian Eberly is the new vice president and dean of academic affairs at Corning Community College in Corning, New York. She was the assistant dean for academic foundations at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, New Jersey.

Dr. Eberly is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She holds a master’s degree in applied English from Michigan State University and an educational doctorate from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Catherine Krause was named dean of the Honors College and dean of the University College at the University of New Mexico. She has been serving as a professor of economics and has been on the faculty at the university since 1996.

Dr. Krause is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Stanford Law School. She also holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Dr. Pfluger has spent the past year as Bakersfield College's interim president. She previously served as vice chancellor of educational services and student success at the Kern Community College District.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
