Rice University in Houston has extended Amy Dittmar’s contract as the Howard R. Hughes Provost and executive vice president for academic affairs through the 2031 fiscal year.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Rice and working alongside our extraordinary faculty, students and staff,” said Dr. Dittmar. “We have tremendous momentum, and I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen academic excellence, expand opportunities for our students and faculty, and advance Rice’s impact in Houston and around the world.”
Dr. Dittmar, a professor of finance in the Jones Graduate School of Business and a professor of economics in the School of Social Sciences, began her tenure with Rice in 2022. Earlier, she spent several years with the University of Michigan in various faculty and administrative roles, including senior vice provost for academic and budgetary affairs, senior associate dean for graduate programs in the Ross School of Business, and acting provost. A scholar of corporate finance, governance, and gender economics, Dr. Dittmar has also taught at Indiana University.
“Since joining Rice in 2022, Amy has been an exceptional partner to me and an indispensable member of our leadership team,” said Reginald DesRoches, president of Rice University. “She brings a strong understanding of higher education, a deep commitment to academic excellence, a clear sense of what Rice can and must accomplish, and a remarkable ability to turn ambitious ideas into action.”
Dr. Dittmar earned her bachelor’s degree in finance and business economics from Indiana University. She holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of North Carolina.
