The Inaugural Provost at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee

Debbie Murray has been appointed to the newly created position of provost at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Dr. Murray will continue to serve as vice president for academic affairs, a post she has held since 2013.

Lee University, which is affiliated with the Church of God, enrolls nearly 4,900 undergraduate students and about 500 graduate students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 61 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Murray holds the rank of distinguished professor of education at Lee University. She joined the Lee faculty in 1980 as an assistant professor of education. Dr. Murray served as dean of the Helen DeVos College of Education for 25 years.

Professor Murray grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee, and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Lee University. She holds a master’s degree in special education and a doctorate in education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
