Elizabeth Elliott Has Been Selected to Lead the Educational Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi

Elizabeth ElliottElizabeth M. Elliott, a professor in the College of Education and director of the Family Resource Center at Florida Gulf Coast University, has been named president of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) International Honor Society in Education. She will serve as president-elect through June 2020, as president from 2020 to 2022, and as past-president from 2022 to 2024. The honor society aims to foster excellence in education and promotes fellowship among those dedicated to teaching.

Dr. Elliott was inducted into KDP in 1995. Ten years later, she became counselor of the Omega Epsilon Chapter at Florida Gulf Coast University, which has won the Achieving Chapter Excellence award six consecutive times. She has won several awards from the society including the Lucina Rose Counselor Award, an honor awarded once every two years to an outstanding counselor. Additionally, she has served on international KDP committees and as an editorial reviewer for its cornerstone publication, The Educational Forum.

Dr. Elliott believe that KDP makes a real difference in the field of education. “Our challenge is to develop encompassing strategies for attracting and sustaining all individuals into lifetime membership and fellowship,” she says. “Next, we must focus on advocating for the practicing educator. Finally, and maybe most importantly, we must continue to foster relationships and partnerships with international colleagues to ensure that all teachers and learners are prepared for future challenges.”

Professor Elliott has taught at Florida Gulf Coast University since 2001. She holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both in special education from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in human ecology and child development from the University of Tennessee.
