Carol Welt, the former assistant vice provost for research at the University of Connecticut, died on June 11. She was 77 years old and had been fighting cancer for eight years.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York with a degree in anthropology. She went on to earn master’s and doctoral degrees in anthropology from the University of Chicago. Her research focused on brain neurophysiology.
After earning her Ph.D., Dr. Welt became a senior scientist at the Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She later worked for the National Science Foundation in the Division of Behavioral and Neural Sciences. Dr. Welt also served as associate dean of research at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and associate dean at the New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Welt joined the staff at the University of Connecticut in 2002. In addition to her duties as assistant vice provost, she served as executive director of the Office for Sponsored Programs at the university. She retired in 2007.
