Michelle Allmendinger Is the New President of Delta College in Michigan

Michelle Allmendinger has been named the sixth president of Delta College in University Center, Michigan. She began her appointment on June 29.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, Delta College enrolls nearly 8,400 students. Women represent 63 percent of the community college’s student body.

Dr. Allmendinger’s career began as a high school English teacher and part-time college athletic coach. After spending six years coaching women’s collegiate tennis and softball on a full-time basis, she transitioned into higher education administration as athletic director and assistant dean of students at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa. Later, she served as dean of students and development at Clinton Community College in Clinton, Iowa. In 2023, Dr. Allmendinger was appointed to her most recent position as vice president of student affairs at Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa.

“It is an honor to be the leader of Delta College,” said Dr. Allmendinger. “I look forward to building strong relationships with our students, faculty, staff, and community members as we work together to advance Delta’s mission of delivering an enriching education that empowers our diverse and inclusive community to achieve personal, professional, and academic goals.”

A first-generation college student, Dr. Allmendinger earned her bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. She holds a master’s degree in human kinetics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Michigan State University.
