Five Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Posts at Colleges and Universities

Jonencia Wood was named assistant vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Most recently, Wood was the executive director of alumni and family relations at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Wood holds a master’s degree in management from Cambridge College in Massachusetts.

Karen Nelson is the new vice president for inclusion and community impact at Herzing University, which is based in Milwaukee and operates 10 campuses across seven states and an online division. Previously, she served as a diversity officer for Rogers Behavioral Health and for the city of Appleton, Wisconsin.

Nelson is a graduate of Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She holds an executive MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Brooke Vick was named the inaugural chief diversity officer and associate provost for equity and inclusion at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Since 2018 she has served as the college’s associate provost for faculty and diversity initiatives.

Dr. Vick earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in women’s studies, from Colorado College. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Pamela Ross-McClain is the inaugural chief officer of culture, belonging, and community building at Delta College in Frankenlust Township, Michigan. Previously, she served as a tenured professor of education for Saginaw Valley State University and the University of Michigan-Flint.

Dr. Ross-McClain earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Afro-American and African studies from the University of Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in Afro-American studies from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in teacher education and professional development from Michigan State University.

Adrienne Morgan has been appointed interim vice president for equity and inclusion and the Richard Feldman Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Rochester in New York. She has been serving as vice president for equity and inclusion at the University of Rochester Medical Center and as a senior associate dean for equity and inclusion at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Morgan is also an associate professor in the department of medical humanities and bioethics at the Medical Center and an associate professor at the Warner School of Education.

Dr. Morgan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Rochester.
