Jennifer Hunt Named the First Woman Dean of Dartmouth’s Medical School

Jennifer Hunthas been appointed dean of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She will be the first woman to lead the Ivy League medical school in its 229-year history when her appointment begins on August 1.

Dr. Hunt has been serving as the Folke H. Peterson Dean’s Distinguished Professor and interim dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine. Earlier in her tenure at the university, she was chair of the department of pathology, immunology, and laboratory medicine. She also served as chief of the hospital medical staff at UF Health Shands Hospital and clinics. Dr. Hunt previously held academic and leadership roles with the University of Pittsburgh, the Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be joining the vibrant Dartmouth community,” says Hunt. “I am looking forward to getting to know the Geisel School of Medicine’s faculty, staff, students, and trainees and collaborating with them to build upon the school’s rich history of innovation and excellence.”

Dr. Hunt received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and French from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree and master of education degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she also completed a residency in anatomic pathology and a fellowship in molecular genetic pathology.
