Majornette Jefferson has been promoted to executive director of community engagement at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. An administrator at the medical school since 2022, she has previously served as director of community outreach and as director of community affairs. Her background includes over a decade of experience in higher education.
Jefferson received her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University.
Terri Hooper is the new chief human resources officer at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. With over 17 years of professional experience, she has worked in strategic human resources leadership, compliance, employee development, and organizational growth. Most recently, she served in several capacities with the City of Columbia.
Hooper holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice administration from Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and a master’s degree in management from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.
Heather Horn has been named vice president for human resources at the University of Washington. She comes to her new role from Oregon State University, where she was vice provost and chief human resources officer. Earlier, she worked in employee and labor relations positions with the University of Illinois.
Horn earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in labor and industrial relations from the University of Illinois.
Dawn Daniels has been promoted to chief of police at Washington State University. A member of the Washington State University community for more than three decades, she has held several roles within the university’s police department. Most recently, she was assistant chief of police.
Daniels is a graduate of Washington State University.
Wendy Lin-Cook has been appointed vice provost of enrollment management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. She most recently served as vice president of enrollment management at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Previously, she held key enrollment positions with the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Seton Hall University, and Felician University.
Dr. Lin-Cook received her bachelor’s degree in banking and finance and her master’s degree in humanities from Hofstra University in New York. She earned her Ph.D. in higher education leadership, management, and policy from Seton Hall University in New Jersey.
Ruth Lopez is the new director of admissions at Alverno College, a liberal arts institution for women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Most recently, she was the supervisor of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Milwaukee Recreation. Earlier, she held student advising and admissions roles with Milwaukee Public Schools and St. Joan Antida High School.
Lopez is an alumna of Alverno College, where she majored in community leadership and development. She holds a master of legal studies degree in human resources from Northeastern University in Boston.
Victoria Farnsworth has been named chief information officer at the University of Mississippi. Her background includes over two decades of experience in higher education, including recent service as vice chancellor and chief information officer at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Earlier, she held several information technology roles with Purdue University in Indiana.
Farnsworth holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and a master’s degree in information systems management from Purdue University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational learning and leadership from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Heidi Grunwald has been selected to serve as interim vice president for research and creative activity at North Dakota State University. She has been serving as the university’s associate vice president for research and faculty development. Earlier in her career, she was director of the Institute for Survey Research at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is the co-founder of Legal Science, LLC.
Dr. Grunwald holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Michigan.
Laura Franklin has been appointed director of the Accessibility Resource Center at the University of New Mexico. Her career in higher education includes over three decades of experience in student support positions. Most recently, she was director of student access at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Franklin earner her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in higher education from Iowa State University.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The women who are taking on new leadership roles with professional academic organizations are Yasmeen Shorish of James Madison University in Virginia, Elena Carbone of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Shelley Lusetti of New Mexico State University, Oona Hathaway of Yale Law School, and Keisha Blain of Brown University.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
