Five months after Alverno College declared a financial state of emergency, the women's college has officially dropped its "financial distress" designation thanks to millions of dollars in donations and grants.

"These actions are necessary as we forge a path forward that safeguards Alverno’s survival, preserves our accreditation, and retains our academic integrity,” said Alverno College President Christy Brown.
Since 2012, Brown has served as chief executive officer for Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. Prior to leading the Girl Scouts, Brown served as vice chancellor for finance and administrative affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2007 to 2012. Earlier, she was executive vice president and general counsel at Milwaukee Area Technical College from 2002 to 2007.
The new deans are Mary Anne Alabanza Akers at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Jessica Wilkie at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York, Jeanie C. Lucy at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Kendra Hall-Kenyon at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Racquel Ingram at High Point University in North Carolina, and Iliana B. Melendez at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.
