A Dozen Women Who Have Been Assigned New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

Karen Chen was named vice president of enrollment at Oklahoma State University. She is the former assistant dean of admission for enrollment management at the University of Tulsa.

Chen earned a bachelor’s degree in communications at the University of Tulsa. She earned a master’s degree in organizational dynamics from the University of Oklahoma.

Orly Hardin was appointed associate director of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association. For the past four years, she has served as the assistant director of alumni engagement and recruitment programs. She joined the staff at the university in 1998 and moved to the Alumni Association in 2007.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Hardin graduated from Emory University with a degree in psychology.

Zakiya Brown has been promoted to vice president of student affairs and enrollment management at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Dr. Brown joined the staff at Lincoln University in 2019 as the Title IX coordinator and was promoted in June 2021 to dean of students, chief diversity officer, and Title IX coordinator.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Brown received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University in Portland and a doctorate in higher education administration from Northcentral University.

Tracy Weber is the new assistant vice president for community technology experience at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She joined the staff at the university in 2003 and most recently served as senior director of collaborative information technology services.

Weber holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics and an executive master’s degree in nonprofit administration, both from the University of Notre Dame.

Sheryl Mauricio, associate dean for student conduct and community standards, has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for student affairs at Washington University in St. Louis. She joined the university in 2018 after serving as an associate dean at Cornell University.

Mauricio is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree in postsecondary education student affairs from the University of Southern California.

Heidi Anderson-Isaacson has been appointed vice president for student development and success at Alverno College in Milwaukee. Prior to Alverno, she served as interim director of residence life at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse.

Dr. Anderson-Isaacson earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and an educational doctorate from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Veronica L. Sills has been named associate vice chancellor for human resources/chief human resources officer at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has been serving in the position on an interim basis since November. She previously was assistant vice chancellor of human resources.

Dr. Sills received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from The College of New Jersey. She holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and a master of public administration degree from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in higher education administration and organizational management from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from the Unversity of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Barbara Carson was appointed managing director of programs and services at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families of Syracuse University in New York. She will be based in Washington, D.C. Carson spent nearly a decade in leadership roles at the U.S. Small Business Administration, most recently as the deputy associate administrator for the Office of Disaster Assistance.

Carson is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she majored in political science and government. She holds a master’s degree in management from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Kendria Mason has been named the coordinator of First-Year Experiences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was a coordinator and advisor for the department of housing and residence life at the University of South Carolina.

Mason is a graduate of Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, where she majored in educational studies. She earned a master’s degree n higher education student affairs from the University of South Carolina.

Madison Fleck Cook is the new director of student media in the Division of Student Life at West Virginia University. She was an adjunct professor of journalism at the Univerity of Missouri.

Cook is a graduate of West Virginia University, where she majored in print journalism. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.

Sharon Beasley was appointed director of nursing education at the University of the District of Columbia. She has been serving as director of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, based in Atlanta.

Dr. Beasley earned a master’s degree in nursing administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of South Carolina.

Amy Adelman was named interim senior vice president and general counsel at Emory University in Atlanta. She was a deputy general counsel who has served the university for nearly 20 years. Prior to joining Emory in 2003, she was a partner with the law firm Kilpatrick Townsend in its labor and employment law section.

Adelman is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. She earned a juris doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis.
