Maya Wiley was named the Henry Cohen Professor of Urban Policy and Management in the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at the New School in New York. She will also serve as senior vice president for social justice. A civil rights attorney, Professor Wiley has been serving as a legal counsel to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Professor Wiley is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in psychology. She earned her law degree at Columbia University.
Sally C. Morton was appointed to the Lay Nam Chang Dean’s Chair at Virginia Tech. She is a professor of statistics and new dean of the College of Science at the university. Before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech this summer, Dr. Morton was professor and chair of the department of biostatistics in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Morton holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in statistics from Stanford University. She also earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Julia Wallace was named to the Frank Russell Chair for the Business of Journalism at Arizona State University. She has been serving as the director of the television, newspaper, radio and digital medial group for Cox Media in Ohio. She is the former editor-in-chief of the Atlanta Journal Constitution and former managing editor of the Arizona Republic.
Wallace holds a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Jodi Upton was appointed to the Knight Chair in Data and Explanatory journalism at the Newhouse School of Syracuse University in New York. She has been a senior database editor for USA Today.
Upton is a graduate of Michigan State University and was a Knight Fellow at Stanford University.
Hui Fang was named to the David L. and Beverly J.C. Mills Chair in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on data and information management, particularly in relation to disaster and emergency management.
Dr. Fang is a graduate of Tsinghua University in China. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.
Beth Simmons was named the Andrea Mitchell University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania with joint appointments in the law school and in the department of political science. She has been serving as the Clarence Dillon Professor of International Affairs at Harvard University.
Professor Simmons is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Redlands in California, where she majored in political science and philosophy. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Chicago and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in government from Harvard University.
Pia Albinsson was appointed to the John W. Guffey Jr. Professorship in the department of marketing at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She joined the faculty at the university in 2007.
Professor Albinsson holds an MBA and a Ph.D. from New Mexico State University.
Shontavia Johnson was named to the Kern Family Chair in Intellectual Property Law at the Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. She also was appointed director of the Intellectual Property Law Center at the law school. She joined the faculty at the law school in 2010.
Professor Johnson is a graduate of Clemson University in South Carolina, where she majored in biosystems engineering. She earned her law degree at the University of Arkansas.
Anne Gelb was appointed to the John G. Kemeny Parents Professorship in Mathematics at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Professor Gelb joined the Dartmouth College faculty in 2007 after teaching at Arizona State University.
Dr. Gelb is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dr. Burris has served as provost of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina for the past four years. She is slated to become the next president of SUNY's Buffalo State University on July 1.
