After leading the institution on an interim basis for the past year, Dr. Heather Norris has been named the permanent chancellor of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
BJ Casey, the Christina L. Williams Professor of Neuroscience at Barnard College in New York City, is the winner of the 2023 Mika Salpeter Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Neuroscience.

A native of Australia, Susan Edwards has served as provost at Wright State University since 2018. Prior to coming to Wright State, Dr. Edwards served as vice provost for faculty affairs and professor of biology at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
Currently, Dr. White is vice president for economic and workforce development and continuing education at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in North Carolina. She has been on the staff there for 18 years. She will begni her new job on January 1.

The new mentoring model consisted of a combination of monthly large-group sessions on common topics and self-guided small-group sessions with a focus on peer-to-peer relationships. This method encouraged an environment of sharing that was aimed at increasing retention rates for women faculty members.
