The Next President of Marylhurst University in Oregon

Melody Rose was named the 15th president of Marylhurst University in Oregon. The university, just south of Portland, enrolls about 1,600 students, evenly divided among undergraduate and graduate levels. Women are 70 percent of the undergraduate student body. Dr. Rose will take office in August.

Since March 2013, Dr. Rose has been chancellor of the University of Oregon System. Previously, she was a professor of political science and vice provost for academic programs and instruction at Portland State University. She joined the faculty at Portland State in 1995.

Dr. Rose is the co-author of Hillary Clinton’s Race for the White House: Gender Politics and the Media on the Campaign Trail (Lynne Rienner Publishers, 2009) and the editor of Women and Executive Office: Pathways and Performance (Lynne Rienner Publishers, 2012).

Dr. Rose is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz. She holds a master’s degree in public administration, a second master’s degree in government, and a Ph.D. in government from Cornell University.
