Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, has announced the promotion of 38 faculty members to the rank of full professor. The promotions are effective for the 2013-14 academic years. Of the 38 promotions to full professor, eight went to women.
Catherine A. Hill was promoted to professor of entomology. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Adelaide in Australia.
Teresa Taber Doughty was appointed professor of educational studies. A graduate of Auburn University, she holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in special education at Georgia State University.
Heidi A. Diefes-Dux was named a full professor of engineering education. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in food science from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in agriculture and biological engineering from Purdue University.
Becky A. Brown was promoted to professor of languages and culture in the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a master’s degree from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Texas.
Sara H. Wallace was named professor of visual and performing arts.
Hyunyi Cho was appointed professor of communication. Dr. Cho is a graduate of Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mass media from Michigan State University.
Marifran Mattson was promoted to professor of communication in the College of Liberal Arts. She is a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. She holds a master’s degree from Marquette University and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University.
Erica Carlson was named professor of physics. She is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
Dr. Bear, a longtime leader and advocate for international public health, is the new leader of Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University-affiliated global health organization dedicated to improving the health and lives of women and families around the world.
Dr. Fleuriet comes to her new role from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she has been serving as vice provost for honors education and a professor of anthropology.
Dr. Burris has served as provost of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina for the past four years. She is slated to become the next president of SUNY's Buffalo State University on July 1.
