Alfred University in western New York State has announced the promotions of two women faculty members in its School of Art and Design. Both women were also granted tenure.
M. Michelle Illuminato was promoted to associate professor. She is chair of the school’s foundation division. Illuminato is an artist who creates events, public-exchanges, and artworks to help reveal the complicated and often contradictory relationship between people, their culture and the land they live on.
Illuminato is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Stephanie McMahon, chair of the division of painting, was promoted to associate professor. Her abstract works are often done on shaped panels or on paper that has been cut and manipulated.
McMahon is a graduate of Alfred University and holds a master of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Texas at Austin.
Since 2021, Dr. Raver has been serving as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She will begin her new duties at the University of Michigan on December 1.
