East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania has promoted five women faculty members. The university, located in the Pocono Mountain region of northeastern Pennsylvania, enrolls about 7,300 students. About 55 percent of all undergraduate students are women.
Stephanie French was promoted to full professor of theater. She is a graduate of San Francisco State University and holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of California at San Diego.
Shannon Frystak, was promoted to associate professor of history. Dr. Frystak is the author of the book, Our Minds on Freedom: Women and the Struggle for Black Equality in Louisiana, 1924-1967 (Louisiana State University Press). She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio and holds a master’s degree from the University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire.
Elizabeth Buzzelli-Clarke was promoted to associate professor of music. She has been on the faculty at ESU since 1996. Buzzelli-Clarke is a graduate of Ithaca College and holds two master’s degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Beth Sockman is an associate professor in the department of media communications and technology. Dr. Sockman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and holds a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
Wendy Dietrich-Wheeler was promoted to assistant professor of athletic training. She was an athletic trainer at the university.
Dietrich-Wheeler earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science at the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in athletic training from West Virginia University. She is currently completing her doctorate in athletic training through the University of Idaho.
