Dr. Whalen joined the faculty at East Stroudsburg University in 1992. There, she expanded the women’s studies program and served as the director of the Women’s Center. She retired from teaching n 2013.
Kenya Siana Flash was the librarian for political science, global information, and government information at the Marx Science and Social Science Library on the campus of Yale University.
The women scholars taking on new roles are Fathima Wakeel at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Rachel Finley at Arizona State University, Elaine Shuey at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, Susan Dynarski at Harvard University, Amy Campbell at the University of Illinois at Chicago, aand Christianne Roumie at Vanderbilt University.
Here is this week’s roundup of women who have been appointed to new administrative positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
The four retiring presidents are Marcia G. Welsh, president of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, Kaylen Betzig, president of Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin, Christine Hammond, president of Mid Michigan College, and Carol Taylor, president of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri.
Dr. Wells has been serving as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Before joining Minnesota State University, Wells served as vice provost and graduate dean of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
The new deans are Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, Jennifer D. Greer, Sian Mooney, Bonnie Rush, Elizabeth Skomp, Kimberly Lawless, Andra Basu, Coleen Pugh, Adrea Lawrence, Deborah Rifenbary, and Zoe Woodell Locklear.
The honorees are Jennifer L.W. Carter of Case Western Reserve, Johnetta Betcsh Cole, former president of Spelman College, Rebecca Wright of Barnard College, Amy Blackstone of the University of Maine, Tressie McMillan Cottom of Virginia Commonweath, Jane Huffman of East Stroudsburg University, Megan Pfitzinger Lippe of the University of Alabama, and Mary Atwater at the University of Georgia.
The four scholars receiving promotions are Carrie Maloney in sociology, social work, and criminal justice, Emily Sauers in exercise science, Jan Selving in English, and Rachel Wolf-Colon in communication sciences and disorders.
The new full professors at Sandra Eckard in English, Shannon Frystak in history and geography, Chin Hu in sociology, T. Michelle Jones-Wilson in chemistry, Elizabeth Leigh Smith in English, and Beth Rajan Sockman in digital media technologies.
Dr. Seigart has been serving as associate director of undergraduate and master's degree nursing programs and professor of nursing at Boise State University in Idaho. She will become dean at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania on August 21.
Darby Dickerson was appointed dean of the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago, effective January 1 and Cornelia Sewell-Allen is the new dean of student life at East Stroudsburg University, one of 14 member campuses of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
