A Pair of Women Who Have Been Named Provosts

Leamor Kahanov is the new senior vice president and provost at Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania. “I am excited about joining Alvernia University as a member of the community,” she said. “Alvernia’s growth and dedication to impacting and transforming students and our communities was my initial attraction to the institution. I am looking forward to participating in the positive trajectory of Alvernia.”

Dr. Kahanov previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer at Stockton University in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Prior to Stockton, Dr. Kahanov served as provost at SUNY Oneonta. Earlier in her career. Dr. Kahanov was dean of the College of Health Sciences and Education at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, and assistant dean for interprofessional education and practice and chair of the department of applied medicine and rehabilitation at Indiana State University. She is the co-author of Athletic Training and Therapy: Foundations of Behavior and Practice (Human Kinetics, 2021).

Dr. Kahanov earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and athletic training from Indiana University. She holds a master’s degree in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Arizona and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of San Francisco.

Sheri Noviello was appointed interim provost and vice president of the Division of Academic Affairs at Valdosta State University in Georgia. She had been serving as dean of the College of Health Sciences at Georgia College and State University from July 2019 through May 2023. Dr. Noviello initially joined the Valdosta State University community in April 2014 as associate dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She was asked to serve as interim dean of the college in July 2014 and was named dean in January 2016.

“I left part of my heart at VSU when I left four years ago, and I feel as if I am coming home,” Dr. Noviello said. “I am excited to partner with individuals who have a passion for VSU and will continue to work hard to move the institution forward.”

Noviello holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from what is now Columbus State University in Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in nursing, with a focus on adult health and education, from Troy State University in Alabama, and a Ph.D. with a focus on nursing across the lifespan, from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
