Three Women Promoted to Full Professor at Valdosta State University in Georgia

Valdosta State University in Georgia has promoted six scholars to the rank of full professor. Three of the promotions went to women.

Heather Kelley was promoted to full professor in the department of human services. She serves as chair of the department. Dr. Kelley’s research agenda examines the intersections of teaching, learning, and motivation with a particular emphasis on self-efficacy, culturally responsive pedagogy, and strategies that enhance the academic performance of at-risk and underrepresented student populations. Dr. Kelley is a graduate of Centenary College of Louisiana, where she majored in elementary education. She holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Texas Tech University.

Jamie Workman was promoted to full professor of higher education leadership in the department of leadership, technology, and workforce development. Her scholarship focuses broadly on the fields of higher education and student affairs with an emphasis on student learning and development and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Workman is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. She earned a master’s degree in education at Indiana State University and a Ph.D. in education from Ohio University.

Catherine Bowers was promoted to full professor in the reference services department. Her academic focus is on critical information literacy, place-based education, lifelong learning, and media literacy. She joined the faculty in 2015 after teaching at West Texas A&M University. Professor Bowers is a graduate of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree in cultural anthropology and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Katherine Yelick to Direct Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
