Leamor Kahanov is the new senior vice president and provost at Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania, and Sheri Noviello was appointed interim provost and vice president of the Division of Academic Affairs at Valdosta State University in Georgia.
Glenda Swan, an associate professor in the department of art and design at Valdosta State University in Georgia, received the Award for Excellence in Teaching from SECAC, formerly the Southeastern College Art Conference. The award recognized a scholar who demonstrates exceptional command of his or her discipline through the ability to teach effectively, impart knowledge, and inspire students.
Kimberly Ballard-Washington has served as interim president since July 2019. Earlier, she was associate vice chancellor for legal affairs for the University System of Georgia and is the former associate director of legal affairs for the flagship campus of the University of Georgia in Athens.
The three women faculty member at Valdosta State University who were promoted and granted tenure are Meagan ArrastiÌa-Chisholm in human services, Catherine Sara Bowers in library reference services, and Evelyn Davis-Walker in graphic design.
Ballard-Washington currently serves as associate vice chancellor for legal affairs for the University System of Georgia. Ballard-Washington will become interim president on July 1 upon the retirement of Cheryl Davenport Dozier. Dr. Dozier had led Savannah State University since 2011.
Since 2013, Dr. Brown has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Earlier, she was interim dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida.

In 1964 Professor Quarterman became the first woman to head an academic department at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. In 1969 Professor Quarterman discovered living specimens of the Tennessee coneflower. The species was thought to be extinct.
