Four Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Positions in Higher Education

Laura Gilchrist was appointed to the GHR Endowed Chair for Health Education and Research in the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health Sciences at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has been on the faculty since 1999 and currently serves as a professor in the doctor of physical therapy program, primarily teaching in the areas of neuroscience and pathophysiology. Her research focuses on improving physical function in children and adolescents undergoing treatment for cancer.

Dr. Gilchrist holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, as well as a bachelor’s team in physical therapy and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Minnesota.

Alison Brown has been named to the Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb Endowed Chair at Talladega College in Alabama. She is dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the college. Her research focuses on the mechanisms and prevention of different types of cancer, including breast, prostate, and ovarian cancers.

Dr. Brown is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree in biology from Tuskegee University in Alabama and a Ph.D. in toxicology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Amy J. Goldberg was named the inaugural Marjorie Joy Katz Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. The endowed position was named for the late philanthropist Marjorie Joy Katz, who was the wife of Lewis Katz, the namesake of the medical school and a Temple trustee until his passing in 2014.

Dr. Goldberg, a trauma surgeon, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

Tabitha James, professor of business information technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was named the R.B. Pamplin Professor of Business Information Technology. A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2002, Professor James’ research focuses on the societal and business impacts of technology use.

Dr. James holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Mississippi.
