Four Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Professorships

Julie Brahmer has been named the inaugural recipient of the Marilyn Meyerhoff Professorship in Oncology within the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Dr. Brahmer received her undergraduate degree in chemistry and philosophy from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine.

Evelynn Hammonds will be the inaugural Audre Lorde Visiting Professor of Queer Studies at Spelman College in Atlanta for the 2022-23 academic year. She is the Barbara Gutmann Rosenkrantz Professor of the History of Science and professor of African and African American studies, and professor in the department of social and behavioral sciences in the T. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University. Professor Hammonds has taught at Harvard since 1999 and is a former dean of Harvard College. She is the president-elect of the History of Science Society.

Dr. Hammonds holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Spelman College and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She earned a master’s degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in the history of science from Harvard University.

Cynthia Rudin was named the Earl D. McLean, Jr. Professor at Duke Univerity. She is a professor of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, statistical science, and biostatistics & bioinformatics.

Professor Rudin is a graduate of the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University in New Jersey.

Autumn Hostetter was appointed to the Kurt D. Kaufman Endowed Chair at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Dr. Hostetter, a professor of psychology, has expertise in cognitive psychology — specifically, the psychology of language and spatial cognition.

Professor Hostetter is a graduate of Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
