Six Universities Announce the Appointments of Women to Dean Positions

Ingrid Guerra-López, will be the next dean of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She will take office on July 1. She has been serving as the interim dean of the College of Education and a professor in the Learning Design and Technology Program at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Dr. Guerra-López holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in instructional systems design, all from Florida State University.

Susan Shelangoskie has been named the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Siena Height University in Adrian, Michigan, effective July 11. She has been serving as chair of the English department and director of the digital and media studies program at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She has been on the faculty at Lourdes University for 15 years.

Dr. Shelangoskie s a graduate of Cleveland State University in Ohio, where she majored in English and mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in British and American literature from the University of Utah.

Marianne Baernholdt has been appointed dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia. She has been serving as the associate dean of global initiatives and the interim dean of research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Nursing. Dr. Baernholdt previously taught at the University of Virginia. She is the co-editor of the book, Nurses Contributions to Quality Health Outcomes (Springer, 2021).

Dr. Baernholdt is a graduate of Pace University in New York, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master of public health degree and a master’s degree in critical care nursing from Columbia University and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.

Nandita Mani has been named the new dean of libraries at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, effective August 1. She has been serving as associate university librarian for health sciences and director of the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Mani holds a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in Edmonton, Alberta. She earned a master of library and information science degree and a Ph.D. in instructional technology, both from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Stephanie Shonekan was named dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland College Park, effective July 1. She has been serving as senior associate dean of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Missouri. Dr. Shonekan is the co-editor of several books including Black Resistance in the Americas (Routledge, 2018) and Black Lives Matter and Music: Protest, Intervention, Reflection (Indiana University Press, 2018).

Dr. Shonekan holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Jos in Nigeria. She earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and a Ph.D. in folklore and ethnomusicology from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Jolie Graybill was appointed dean of libraries at North Dakota State University in Fargo. She has been serving as assistant director for digital initiatives and metadata education at the University of Minnesota Libraries in Minneapolis.

A graduate of the University of Kansas, Dr. Graybill holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota and a master of library and information science degree from the University of Arizona. She earned a doctorate in managerial leadership in the information professions from Simmons University in Boston.
