Seven Women Administrators Who Are Taking on New Duties in Higher Education

Mary Sauceda was named associate vice president of enrollment management at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, effective February 7. She was associate vice president of enrollment management at Metropolitan State University in Denver. Earlier, she was associate director of financial aid at the University of Denver.

Dr. Sauceda holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Fresno State University in California. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Denver.

Rachelle Hernandez was named vice provost for student affairs at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, effective March 1. For the past four years, she was senior vice provost for enrollment management and student success at the University of Texas at Austin. Earlier, she was associate vice provost for enrollment management and director of admissions at the University of Minnesota.

Hernandez holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education and human resource development and is completing a doctorate of philosophy in organizational leadership, policy, and development from the University of Minnesota.

Jonica Burke is the new vice president of finance and administration at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. For the past three years, she was worked for the Huron Consulting Group. Earlier, she was on the staff of Shawnee State University for 10 years, including serving as registrar and director of institutional finance.

Dr. Burke is a graduate of the University of Houston, where he majored in Spanish. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in budget and finance from the University of Kentucky.

Lauren A. Turner was appointed senior vice president of talent and inclusion at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. She was senior associate vice chancellor for human resources and organizational strategy and effectiveness at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Dr. Turner is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She earned a master’s degree in psychology at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in leadership from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Joanne L. Smikle is the new program facilitator for the Professional Leadership Program for Women in the Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute at Towson University in Maryland.  She is a former faculty member at Saybrook University in Pasadena, California.

Dr. Smikle is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She earned a Ph.D. in human and organization development from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.

Susan Schaurer has been named vice president for enrollment management and chief recruitment officer at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She was director of admission and associate vice president for strategic enrollment management at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Schaurer received a bachelor’s degree in English education from Miami University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.

Andrea Koslow was appointed the principal partnership officer for the Innovation Campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Alexandria. She was vice president and executive director of the Washington Media Scholars Foundation.

Koslow earned a bachelor’s degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and a master’s degree in film and video production at the American University School of Communication.
