Penn State Brandywine Chooses Marilyn Wells as Its Next Chancellor

Marilyn Wells was named chancellor of the Brandywine campus of Pennsylvania State University in Media, Pennsylvania. She will begin her new duties at the start of the new year.

The campus, located west of Philadelphia, enrolls about 1,350 students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up just 40 percent of the undergraduate student body.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Wells stated: “I look forward to working with the campus and community on opportunities for the future including new academic programs, new partners, attracting and retaining students, and addressing challenges of accessibility and affordability.”

Dr. Wells has been serving as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Before joining Minnesota State University, Wells served as vice provost and graduate dean of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Earlier, Dr. Wells served on the faculty of Hampton University in Virginia and Youngstown State University in Ohio.

Dr. Wells holds a bachelor’s degree in home economics education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned master’s degrees in community health and health education at East Stroudsburg University and a doctorate in health education from Southern Illinois University.
