New Assignments for 14 Women Faculty Members in Higher Education

Amy Wagers, the Forst Family Professor of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology at Harvard University was named a Harvard College Professor. The Harvard College Professorships were launched in 1997. They are five-year appointments that include extra support for research or scholarly activities, as well as a semester of paid leave, or summer salary.
Dr. Wagers joined the faculty at the University in 2004. She holds a Ph.D. in immunology and microbial pathogenesis from Northwestern University.
Princess U II Imoukhuede was appointed associate professor of biomedical engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. She was an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Imoukhuede is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in chemical engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the California Institute of Technology.
Dwana Waugh was appointed an assistant professor of history at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She is currently working on a book with the title Schoolhouses Rocked: Lessons on Race, Politics, and Power in the American South.
Dr. Waugh is a graduate of what is now Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.
Kathryn Horn, an associate professor of family and community medicine and associate dean for student affairs at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, was named associate dean for student affairs, admissions, and outreach at the College of Medicine at the University of Houston.
Dr. Horn is a graduate of Austin College in Texas, where she majored in biology. She earned her medical degree at Baylor University.
Diane Edison, professor of art at the University of Georgia, will spend the Spring 2019 semester as artist-in-residence at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. She is the author of Dynamic Color Painting for Beginners (Harry N. Abrams, 2008).
Professor Edison earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Heidi Henderson was promoted to full professor of dance at Connecticut College in New London. She joined the faculty at the college in 2003. Earlier, she served on the dance faculty of Amherst College, Colby College, Hampshire College, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Roger Williams University.
Professor Henderson is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine. She holds a master of fine arts degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Evelyn Wang, the Gail E. Kendall (1978) Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was appointed chair of the department of mechanical engineering. Dr. Wang is also the director of MIT’s Device Research Laboratory.
Dr. Wang is a 2000 graduate of MIT, where she majored in mechanical engineering. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Jennifer Momen was appointed director of the new physician assistant education program at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. She has been serving as medical director of the School of Physician Assistant Studies at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. The program will begin accepting students in January 2020.
Dr. Momen is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she majored in biology. She earned her medical doctorate at the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System and holds a master of public health degree from West Virginia University.
Ann Scheck McAlearney, professor of family medicine in the College of Medicine at Ohio State University, was named the inaugural director of the Center for the Advancement of Team Science, Analytics, and Systems Thinking in Health Services and Implementation Science Research at the university.
Dr. McAlearney has served on the Ohio State faculty for 20 years. She holds a master’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University and a doctorate in health policy and management from Harvard University.
Jennifer M. McDermott, an assistant professor of psychological sciences and brain science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, has been given the added duties of director of diversity and inclusion for graduate and postdoctoral studies.
Dr. McDermott holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Emily M. Klein was named University Distinguished Service Professor of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She has served on the university’s faculty for more than two decades.
Professor Klein is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Katherine Ho was named a professor of economics at Princeton University in New Jersey. Since 2005, she has served on the faculty at Columbia University.
Professor Ho holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Cambridge in England. She earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in business economics at Harvard University.
Donna Spiegelman, the Susan Dwight Bliss Professor of Biostatistics at Yale University, was named director of the university’s School of Public Health’s Center for Methods of Implementations and Prevention Science.
Professor Spiegelman is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in biostatistics from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Roseanne Foti, an associate professor, was appointed chair of the psychology department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She is the first woman to chair the department. Dr. Foti joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1985.
Dr. Foit is a graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Akron.
