Katie Leonard Selected to Be the Next President of Johnson College in Scranton, Pennsylvania

Katie Leonard was chosen to be the eighth president of Johnson College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She will take office on July 1.

Johnson College is a two-year educational institution with an emphasis on trades and technical careers. It enrolls about 450 students and women are only 26 percent of the student body.

Leonard joined the staff at the college in 2007 as coordinator of grants and the annual fund. She moved up the ranks to senior vice president of college advancement. In this role she raised $5 million to fund the college’s new Health Science Technology Center. Currently, she serves as executive vice president at the college.

In accepting her appointment as president, Leonard said “my vision for Johnson College is one with more students, more diversity, more innovation, a student experience that immerses them in industry from day one, getting an education that prepares them for where industry is going, not where it just is today.”

Leonard is a graduate of York College in Pennsylvania, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and is currently studying for an educational doctorate through Capella University.
