Claudia V. Schrader Is the New Leader of York College of the City University of New York

Claudia V. Schrader was selected to serve as interim president of York College in Queens, New York, to succeed Dr. Bernecea Johnson Eanes, who will be stepping down to become president of California State University, Los Angeles.

York College, a campus of the City University of New York System, enrolls just over 6,000 undergraduate students and about 250 graduate students. Women make up 64 percent of the undergraduate student body.

A longtime member of the CUNY family, Dr. Schrader has served as president of Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn New York, since September 2018. She has held leadership roles in three CUNY schools and worked has more than 20 years in the system. Prior to becoming president at Kingsborough, President Schrader served as provost and senior vice president for academic and student success at Bronx Community College; as associate provost at William Paterson University in New Jersey; and as associate provost at Medgar Evers College, where she also held a tenured appointment as a professor of education.

Dr. Schrader has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate in education all from Teachers College at Columbia University.
