New Duties for Six Women Faculty Members at U.S. Universities

cossmanJeralynn S. Cossman, professor and chair of the department of sociology and anthropology at West Virginia University, was named co-editor of the journal Population Research and Policy Review. The journal, issued six times each year, is published by the Southern Demographic Association.

Professor Cossman has taught at West Virginia University since 2014 after serving for 13 years on the faculty at Mississippi State University. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in sociology, all from Florida State University.

banwart2Mary C. Banwart, associate professor in the department of communication studies at the University of Kansas, has been given the additional responsibility of director of the university’s new Institute for Leadership Studies. Dr. Banwart joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in 2002 and was promoted and granted tenure in 2008.

Dr. Banwart is a graduate of the University of Kansas. She holds a master’s degree in speech communication from Western Kentucky University and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Oklahoma.

full_ehammer-127Emily Hammer was named the Jerry Miller Professor of Entrepreneurship at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. She joined the faculty in the university College of Business in 2014. Dr. Hammer teaches courses in ethics and human resource management.

Dr. Hammer holds a bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and a Ph.D., all from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Candis-PizzettaCandis Pizzetta, associate professor in the department of English and modern foreign languages at Jackson State University in Mississippi, has been given the additional responsibility as director of the Center for University Scholars.

Dr. Pizzetta is a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She holds a master’s degree from Mississippi College in Clinton and a Ph.D. in English from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Cyntbrockhia Brock was appointed to the Wyoming Excellence in Higher Education Endowed Chair in Literacy Education at the University of Wyoming. For the past two years, she was a lecturer in literacy studies at the University of South Australia. Earlier, Dr. Brock served on the faculty at the University of Nevada-Reno for 14 years.

Professor Brock is a graduate of Oregon State University. She holds a master’s degree from Washington State University and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Michigan State University.

SJUralSusannah J. Ural was named to the Charles W. Moorman Distinguished Alumni Professorship in the Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a professor of history and co-director of the Dale Center for the Study of War and Society at the university. Professor Ural is the author of several books including Don’t Hurry Me Down to Hades: The Civil War in the Words of Those Who Lived It (Osprey Press, 2013).

Professor Ural is a graduate of the University of Vermont. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from Kansas State University.
