Three Women Are Finalists for the $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award

safe_imageClaremont Graduate University in California has announced five finalists for the $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. The award is given annually to a poet who “is past the very beginning but not yet reached the pinnacle of his or her career.”

The winner of the award will be announced in February and the award will be presented at a ceremony in Claremont in April. Three women are among the five finalists.

brockLucie Brock-Broido is director of poetry in the School of Arts at Columbia University in New York City. She is being honored for her poetry collection Stay, Illusion (Alfred A. Knopf, 2013). Professor Brock-Broido holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Johns Hopkins University. She earned a master of fine arts degree at Columbia University.

angie_estes_photoVoiceOverAngie Estes is on the faculty of the master of fine arts program at Ashland University in Ohio. She is the author of five poetry collections including her latest work Enchantee (Oberlin College Press, 2013). Dr. Estes holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Oregon.

LauraKLaura Kasischke is the Allan Seager Collegiate Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan. She is being honored for her collection The Infinitesimals (Copper Canyon Press, 2014). Professor Kasischke is the author of nine previous collections of poetry and nine novels. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Michigan.
