The New Leader of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University

Sue Carter has been appointed director of The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction at Indiana University in Bloomington. The institute was founded in 1947 by Alfred Kinsey, a pioneer in the study of human sexuality.

Jorge José , vice president for research at Indiana University, stated that “Sue Carter is an outstanding scientist whose innovative research will contribute significantly to The Kinsey Institute. I have asked Dr. Carter to develop a strategic plan for the institute that expands its research focus into the biological bases of love and sexual behavior. Just as Dr. Kinsey’s research in the 20th century broke new ground in our understanding of sexual behavior, Dr. Carter’s research into the mechanisms underlying social bonds, love and other positive emotions will break new ground in the 21st century.”

Dr. Carter was also named the Rudy Professor of Biology at the university. She comes to Indiana University from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she served as a professor of psychiatry. Earlier in her career, Professor Carter taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Maryland.

Dr. Carter is an internationally recognized expert in behavioral neuroendocrinology. She is a graduate of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, and holds a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Arkansas.
