Seven Women in New Faculty Roles

Nicole Overstreet is a new assistant professor of psychology at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS.

Dr. Overstreet is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned a Ph.D. in social psychology at the University of Connecticut.

Tracelyn Gesteland was named to the Walter A. and Lucy Yoshioka Buhler Endowed Chair in music at the University of South Dakota. She recently was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure at the university.

Dr. Gesteland is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. She earned a master’s degree at Roosevelt University and doctorate in musical arts at the University of Houston.

Shelly Long was hired as an assistant professor of education at Clermont College of the University of Cincinnati. She was chair of the education department at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

Dr. Long is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens. She holds a master’s degree from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix.

Barbara Guthrie was appointed professor and director of the College of Health Sciences in the School of Nursing at Northeastern University in Boston. She is the former Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing at Yale University.

Dr. Guthrie is a graduate of Boston University. She holds a master’s degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a doctorate in nursing from New York University.

Jinnie Garrett was named the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Biology at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Garrett was on leave from her faculty post at Hamilton College to serve as dean of the faculty at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Professor Garrett holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics from Texas A&M University. She did postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Helena Mitchell was named Regents Researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She is the executive director of the Center for Advanced Communications Policy and principal research scientist in the School of Public Policy at the university.

Dr. Mitchell is a graduate of the University at Brockport of the State University of New York System. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in telecommunications policy from Syracuse University in New York.

Danielle Evans will join the faculty of the department of English at the University of Wisconsin for the spring 2015 semester. She will be teaching graduate and undergraduate fiction workshops and an advanced fiction class. She has been teaching creative writing at American University in Washington, D.C. Evans is the author of the short story collection Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self (Riverhead, 2010) and is currently at work on her first novel.

Evans is a graduate of Columbia University in New York City and earned a master of fine arts degree in creative writing at the University of Iowa.
