Jennifer L. Brown has been selected to serve as interim chancellor of Montana State University-Northern. Located in Havre, Montana, MSU-Northern enrolls more than 900 undergraduates, 42 percent of whom are women. The university also has a small graduate population of roughly 50 students.
For the past three years, Dr. Brown has served as MSU-Northern’s provost. Before arriving at the university in June 2023, she was associate provost and dean of academic analytics at Eastern Connecticut State University. Earlier in her tenure there, she had stints as special advisor to the provost, chair of the department of economics, and coordinator of the labor relations and human resources management major. As a scholar, she specializes in environmental economics, industrial organizations, econometrics, and educational economics.
“I am honored to serve MSU-Northern in this interim role and grateful for the trust placed in me,” said Dr. Brown. “Northern is a special community because of its students, faculty, staff, alumni and partners, and I look forward to working with them to continue supporting student success and the university’s important mission in Havre and across the Hi-Line.”
Dr. Brown is a graduate of Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where she majored in economics. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
