New Administrative Roles for a Dozen Women at Colleges and Universities

Lisa Knox has been named chief operating officer for athletics and senior deputy athletics director at Clemson University in South Carolina. Knox has been an administrator at Clemson for the past 16 years, most recently serving as vice president of the Office of Institutional Excellence. In 2024, she assumed additional responsibilities as chief of staff for the athletics department.

Knox earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her MBA from Clemson University.

Mary Bowman Hampton is senior vice president for university marketing at Mercer University in Georgia. Hampton comes to her new role from Cox Communications, where she served as the corporate communications director. She first joined Cox in 2003 as a public affairs manager. In her new role in Mercer’s Office of Marketing Communication, Hampton will serve as the university’s spokesperson and chief brand steward.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, Hampton received her master’s degree in mass communication from the University of South Carolina.

Jaqueline Gregory was promoted from interim vice president to permanent vice president for enrollment management at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. Prior to her interim appointment in July 2025, she served as the college’s director of enrollment management. Gregory previously spent more than a decade in the private sector as a senior leader in higher education marketing and enrollment strategy.

Gregory is a summa cum laude graduate of Salisbury University in Maryland, where she double-majored in history and geography and minored in anthropology.

Kim Metzger is vice president and associate dean of development for the University of Chicago College of Medicine and the division of biological sciences. With an extensive background in higher education advancement, Metzger previously served as senior associate vice president and chief advancement officer for UF Health at the University of Florida. Earlier, she spent 14 years in various development positions at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore.

Metzger is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.

Letitia Williams was promoted to vice president of the division of student affairs at Morgan State University in Baltimore. Dr. Williams previously served as the university’s associate vice president and dean of students. Before joining the Morgan State administration, she held senior leadership roles with the University of the District of Columbia, the University of Trinidad and Tobago, and the University of Maryland.

An honors graduate of the University of the West Indies, Dr. Williams holds a Ph.D. in education policy from the University of Maryland.

Marci Middleton has been named vice president of academic affairs at Denmark Technical College in South Carolina. Dr. Middleton comes to her new role from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, where she was acting vice president of academic affairs and director of distance education. Her other experience in higher education includes academic support roles with Georgia Gwinnett College, Shorter University, and the University System of Georgia.

Dr. Middleton earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology from Emory University in Atlanta, an MBA from Augusta State University in Georgia, and both a master’s degree in human resource management and a Ph.D. in educational policy studies from Georgia State University.

Erin Lee was named assistant athletic director for compliance at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Lee comes to her new role from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, where she has served as assistant athletic director for internal operations and compliance since 2023. In 2025, she was named Shepherd’s senior woman administrator.

Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in college student development and administration from Shepherd University.

Heather McDonald was appointed vice president for advancement at Smith College, a women’s liberal arts educational institution in Northampton, Massachusetts. With nearly three decades of higher education experience, Dr. McDonald has been serving as associate vice president for development at Mount Holyoke College, another Massachusetts-based women’s college. Earlier, she was assistant vice president and campaign director for the University of Connecticut Foundation.

A graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, Dr. McDonald holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Hartford in Connecticut and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Connecticut.

Chandra Dorsey-Felton is the new athletic director for Florida Memorial University. She is the first woman to lead the university’s athletics department. Dorsey-Felton previously served as FMU’s deputy athletic director for student success and compliance. She has extensive experience as an athletics administrator and as a Division I women’s basketball coach, including service at Tulane University in New Orleans, Texas State University, Wichita State University in Kansas, McNeese State University in Louisiana, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma.

Dorsey-Felton received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Mississippi.

Christina Dougherty is associate dean for clinical programs and outreach in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Dr. Dougherty has four decades of experience in veterinary medicine, including service in clinical practice, academia, and industry. She previously served on the faculty of the Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine and on the staff of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Dougherty holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dawn M. Nail has been selected to serve as interim associate vice provost for enrollment management at North Carolina A&T State University. This is the second time Dr. Nail has served in this capacity at the university. For the past three years, she has been executive director of the Center for Academic Excellence. Earlier in her tenure, she was head of undergraduate admissions.

Dr. Nail earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from North Carolina A&T State University. She holds a master’s degree in corporate communication from Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and management from Capella University.

Sheila Baldwin has been named president and chief executive officer of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement. Baldwin has been with the University of Iowa for more than 25 years, guiding fundraising strategies across the institution, including for UI Health Care, athletics, all 12 colleges, and numerous arts and campus-wide programs. She has been serving as the center’s senior vice president for development.
