Gundula Kreuzer has been named the Battell Professor of Music in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, where he has taught for more than two decades. A musicologist, Professor Kreuzer currently serves as chair of the department of music. She is the author of two books: Verdi and the Germans: From Unification to the Third Reich (Cambridge University Press, 2010) and Curtain, Gong, Steam: Wagnerian Technologies of Nineteenth-Century Opera (University of California Press, 2018). Professor Kreuzer’s current research interests include contemporary experimental opera, particularly in the United States, as well as the position of opera in post-war memory cultures.
Professor Kreuzer holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
Nancy Yousef is the Bird White Housum Professor of English in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Professor Yousef first came to Yale in 2025 after several years on the faculty of Rutgers University in New Jersey. As a scholar of Romanticism, she explores the vital intersections between philosophy and literature. Professor Yosef has authored several publications throughout her career, including her most recent work, The Aesthetic Commonplace: Wordsworth, Eliot, Wittgenstein, and the Language of Every Day (Oxford University Press, 2022).
Professor Yousef is a graduate of Harvard University. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Columbia University in New York City.
Marlene Daut is the Chester D. Tripp Professor of Black Studies and of French in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. A Yale faculty member since 2022, Professor Daut teaches courses in Anglophone and Francophone Caribbean, African American, and French colonial literary and historical studies. Her research on the history of the Caribbean has lead to several award-winning books, including her most recent monograph, The First and Last King of Haiti: The Rise and Fall of Henry Christophe (Alfred A. Knopf, 2025).
Professor Daut holds a bachelor’s degree in English and French from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
Leah Boustan was named the Malcom K. Brachman Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Professor Boustan, who joined the Ivy League university in 2025, is director of Yale’s Program in Economic History. Her scholarship has focused specifically on migration, labor markets, and inequality in American history. She has published several scholarly books, including Competition in the Promised Land: Black Migrants in Northern Cities and Labor Markets (Princeton University Press, 2016) and Streets of Gold: America’s Untold Story of Immigrant Success (PublicAffairs, 2022).
A summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University, Professor Boustan holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
Xiaohong Chen is the Tjalling C. Koopmans Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In addition to her appointment in the department of economics, she holds a joint appointment at Yale School of Management and a secondary appointment in the department of statistics and data science. Throughout her career, Professor Chen has made fundamental contributions to econometric methods. She is particularly known for her research in penalized sieve estimation and inference on semiparametric and nonparametric models.
Professor Chen earned her bachelor’s degree from Wuhan University in China and her Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, San Diego.
