
California State University, Long Beach received three grants that will be used to encourage young girls to consider studying in the field of engineering. One program, funded by a grant from the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community College system will sponsor a one-week academic program in the summer for girls in the fifth or sixth grade.
A second program entitled “My Daughter Is an Engineer,” bring fifth grade girls and their parents to campus for a robot building program. This program is funded by a grant from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
A third program, funded by a grant from the California Space Grant Consortium, brings K-12 educators to campus to learn best practices for encouraging girls to consider engineering.
