Six Women in New Faculty Roles

Kathleen Bieschke, a professor of counseling psychology, was named chair of the department of educational psychology, counseling, and special education at Pennsylvania State University. In this new role, which she will assume on July 1, she will oversee two undergraduate programs, four master’s degree programs, and four doctoral programs.

Dr. Bieschke holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Illinois State University. She earned a doctorate in counseling psychology from Michigan State University.

Linda S. Pescatello was named a Board of Trustee Distinguished Professor at the University of Connecticut. She is a professor of kinesiology at the university. She is the co-editor of Exercise Genomics (Humana Press, 2011).

Professor Pescatello holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in exercise science from the University of Connecticut.

Alexis Abramson was named faculty director of the Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Abramson has been with the College of Engineering at the university since 2003.

Dr. Abramson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

Michaele Whelan was named associate professor of writing, literature, and publishing at Emerson College in Boston. She will also serve as vice president for academic affairs at the college. She has been serving as vice provost for academic affairs at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and has been on the staff at Brandeis since 2001.

Dr. Whelan is a summa cum laude graduate of Cornell University. She holds a Ph.D. in English and American literature from Harvard University. She is the author of Navigating the Minefield: Hawkes’ Narratives of Perversion Theory (Peter Lang Publishers, 1998) and Travel Implies Destination (Aracne Publishers, 2010).

M. Jennifer Bloxam, professor of music at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, was named a 2013-14 Fellow in Sacred Music, Worship, and the Arts at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University.

Professor Bloxam is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she majored in music history. She holds a Ph.D. in musicology from Yale University.

Tricia Stuth was named to the James R. Cox Professorship in the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

She holds a bachelor degree and a master of architecture degree from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.
