Beth Beason-Abmayr Recognized as a Distinguished Educator by the American Physiological Society

Beth Beason-Abmayr, the Kathleen and Randall Mathews Chair in Biosciences at Rice University in Houston, has received the Arthur C. Guyton Distinguished Educator Award from the American Physiological Society. The award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to physiology education.

Dr. Beason-Abamyr has been a faculty member with Rice University since 1998. Throughout her long tenure, she been dedicated to advancing undergraduate education through student mentorship and development of course-based research opportunities. She currently chairs the biosciences undergraduate curriculum committee and participates in her department’s committees on undergraduate awards and undergraduate recruiting and advising for prospective majors. She is also an advocate for faculty development, serving as a fellow with the Rice’s Center for Teaching Excellence.

A graduate of Auburn University in Alabama, Dr. Beason-Abamyr received her Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
