New Dean Appointments for Five Women Scholars

Heather Koopman has been appointed dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She currently serves as chair of the department of biology and marine biology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she has taught for two decades. She also serves as senior biologist and board member for the Grand Manan Whale and Seabird Research Station in New Brunswick, Canada.

Dr. Koopman received her bachelor’s degree in marine biology and her master’s degree in zoology from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. She holds a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary environment studies from Duke University.

Evelyn Thrasher has been named dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University, after holding the position in the interim since July 2023. She is a professor of analytics and information systems and previously served as the college’s senior associate dean for faculty and administration.

Dr. Thrasher is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master of business administration degree and a Ph.D. in management of information technology and innovation from Auburn University in Alabama.

Sanja Beca has been appointed dean of health, wellness, and sciences at Georgian College in Ontario, Canada. She most recently served as associate dean for the applied health portfolio at Sheridan College in Ontario where she has taught for over ten years.

Dr. Beca holds an M.D. from the University of Belgrade in Serbia and a Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.

Heather Snow has been appointed assistant vice president for student life and dean of students at Texas Woman’s University. She has been with the University of Texas Arlington since 2008, most recently serving as associate vice president and dean of students.

Snow holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky and a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Louisville. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas Arlington.

Christina Moylan has been named dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College in New York, after serving as interim dean for the past year. She first joined the college in 2015 as an assistant professor and has held various academic leadership positions throughout her tenure.

Dr. Moylan graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she majored in educational psychology. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in public health policy from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
