Six Women Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Janelle Neubauer was appointed college chaplain at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, effective July 15. Rev. Neubauer most recently served with Young Adults in Global Mission as country coordinator for Rwanda and as missionary pastor for The Lutheran Church of Rwanda.

Rev. Neubauer earned her bachelor’s degree in religious studies and kinesiology from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She holds a master of divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

Yolanda Smith will be the new head of public safety at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She has been serving as special sheriff and superintendent of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department in Boston, where she serves as the public safety agency’s chief of staff. She has been with the sheriff’s department since 1995.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public policy and organizational leadership from Liberty University.

Andrea Bordeau has been named director of global safety and security at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She has been on the staff at the university since 2007. Bordeau is also the inaugural president of Pulse: International Health and Safety Professionals in Higher Education.

Bordeau is a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree in African studies from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a master’s degree in security studies from the University of Tel-Aviv in Israel.

Virginia McMath was named project manager of the TRIO/SSS program at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. She has been serving as assistant dean for student academic affairs at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.

Dr. McMath earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Illinois State University. She holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a doctorate in education from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Alanna Shanahan was named the T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W’69 Director of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Pennsylvania, effective July 19. She has been serving as vice provost for student affairs at Johns Hopkins University, after serving there from 2016 to 2019 as director of recreation and athletics.

Dr. Shanaha played lacrosse for all four years as an anthropology major at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree and an educational doctorate from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania while working as an assistant, associate, and senior associate athletic director.

Carey Anne Zucca has been appointed the Collyer Vice President for Advancement at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Since 2015, she has served as senior executive director of development and alumni affairs at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering.

Zucca holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned a master of public policy and management degree from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public & International Affairs.

Three Women Promoted to Provost Positions at Universities

The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.

The next president will lead one of the most successful and well-respected community colleges in the country.
