The Next President of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The board of trustees of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has named Lori Sundberg as the educational institution’s fifth president. Dr. Sundberg will take office on August 1.

Kirkwood Community College enrolls more than 14,000 students. Women make up 52 percent of the student body.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Sundberg said: “This college has been a worldwide leader in higher education for decades. To be in a position to lead such an institution is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As an educator, I am very excited to continue Kirkwood’s great tradition of excellence in the classroom and eagerly look forward to what we will accomplish together as we move forward into the future.”

Dr. Sundberg currently serves as president of Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois, which enrolls less than 2,000 students. She became president of the college in 2010 after serving as vice president for academic services and vice president for administrative services at the college.

Dr. Sundberg is a graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where she double majored in economics and history. She holds an MBA with a marketing concentration from Western Illinois University and a doctorate in business administration from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
