The New Director of the Women’s Center at the University of Dayton in Ohio

Lisa Borello is the new director of the Women’s Center on the campus of the University of Dayton in Ohio. “I have a longstanding interest, passion and education in issues concerning women and gender in higher education in particular from graduate school moving forward throughout my career,” Dr. Borello told the student newspaper at the university.

Dr. Borello plans to establish an advisory board of students, faculty and staff to help her stay inform of issues concerning women on campus. “In the kind of work that we do, it is by nature collaborative, and we want to involve the voices of as many people as we can. What is underlying all the work we do here is we want to make the lives for women on this campus better.”

Dr. Borello was the assistant director of professional development for the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Earlier in her career, Dr. Borello was manager of communications and marketing for the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University in Alabama.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Borello holds a master’s degree in women’s studies from Georgia State University in Atlanta and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the sociology of science and technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
