In Memoriam: Lynn A. Nystrom, 1952-2015

nystromLynn Nystrom, the long-time director of news and external relations for the College of Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, died on December 3. She was 63 years old and suffered from cancer.

Nystrom joined the staff of the news bureau at Virginia Tech in 1977. She became news director for the College of Engineering two years later and had served in that role ever since. Nystrom also served as adviser to The Collegiate Times, an independent student newspaper, and to Engineer’s Forum, a student publication within the College of Engineering. Prior to joining the staff at the university, Nystrom was the editor of the Blacksburg Sun.

A native of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, Nystrom was a graduate of Radford University in Virgina. She had completed course work for a master’s degree in science and technology studies at Virginia Tech.
