Four Women Named to Endowed or Distinguished Professorships

GutierrezKris D. Gutierrez was named a Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, the most prestigious honor given to faculty members at the university. She joined the faculty in 2009 as a professor in the School of Education. She previously served on the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Professor Gutierrez holds a master’s degree in English from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in English and education from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

swartzMelody A. Swartz was appointed the William B. Ogden Professor in Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago. Her research is focused on the lymphatic system and cancer immunity. She joined the faculty at the university this past summer after serving on the faculty of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.

Professor Swartz is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she majored in chemical engineering. She earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Karolyn.Stonefelt.05Karolyn Stonefelt was named a Distinguish Professor of the State University of New York. She is a professor in the SUNY Fredonia School of Music. She joined the faculty at the university in 1993 after a career performing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and in 20 Broadway and Off-Broadway plays.

Professor Stonefelt earned a doctorate of music degree in percussion performance at Indiana University.

main-scott-mortonFiona M. Scott Morton was appointed the Theodore Nierenberg Professor of Economics at the School of Management at Yale University. From 2011 to 2012, Professor Scott Morton was the deputy assistant attorney general for economics in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. She first joined the faculty at Yale in 1999 after teaching at the University of Chicago and Stanford University.

Professor Scott Morton is a graduate of Yale University. She earned a Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
